Unlock Your Potential: Learn the Secrets of Vision Boards
What is a Vision Board?
A vision board, sometimes referred to as a dream board, is a collage of images, words, symbols, and affirmations that visually represent what you want to accomplish in life. It could range from professional goals like career advancement, to personal desires like fitness goals or travel aspirations. The concept revolves around the idea that by visualizing our goals, we are more likely to take the necessary steps to achieve them.
The Science Behind Vision Boards
The efficacy of vision boards finds its roots in two main psychological concepts: the self-efficacy theory and the reticular activating system (RAS).
Self-Efficacy Theory
The self-efficacy theory, proposed by psychologist Albert Bandura, states that individuals who believe in their ability to achieve a goal are more likely to do so. By visually depicting goals, vision boards enhance our self-efficacy, providing a constant reminder of our capabilities and aspirations.
Reticular Activating System (RAS)
The RAS is a network of neurons located in the brainstem that helps focus attention. When you constantly see images related to your goals, the RAS prioritizes this information, making you more aware of opportunities and resources related to your aspirations.
